Exposure To Asbestos In The Military

King Law Firm Mesothelioma Lawyer – Veterans Asbestos Exposure

The veteran mesothelioma lawyers of our firm are proud to defend our nation’s heroes against companies that put them at risk for mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases. We can assist you with mesothelioma claims.

From the beginning of the 20th century through the beginning of the 1970s, the U.S. military extensively used asbestos products because of their durability, low cost, heat resistance, and fireproof capabilities. Unfortunately, this has put many U.S. veterans at high risk of developing an asbestos-related disease, such as mesothelioma or lung cancer.

Unfortunately, countless brave service members have been exposed to dangerous asbestos products during their military service. After being diagnosed with mesothelioma, you can file a VA claim with the assistance of our law firm. We can also sue the companies that manufactured asbestos-containing products in some cases.

We Sue the Companies Who Made Asbestos-Containing Products, Not the Government

We don’t sue the military, but it’s important to understand that. Due to their responsibility to disclose the harmful effects of their products, asbestos companies that sold products to the military are suing. Instead of telling the truth about their products, these companies wanted to protect their profits.

If you or a member of your family has been diagnosed with mesothelioma or another asbestos-related disease, we would like to assist you. Please fill out the short contact form here.

Which branches of the military were exposed to asbestos?

Before asbestos was heavily restricted in the 1970s, members of all branches of the military were exposed to it. They include:

Navy in shipyards, boiler rooms, and submarines

Army in building barracks, shipyards, demolition, and construction

Marine Corps in armored vehicles, barracks, ships, and aircraft

Coast Guard exposure inside ships, on ship decks, and boiler rooms

Air Force in air force bases, airplanes, jets, and aircraft maintenance

Asbestos was commonly used in shipyards and in the production of Navy vessels for decades. It is because of this that many people within the Navy were affected, including those who were involved in the construction, overhaul or repair of the ships. When working near the ship’s engine room, Navy veterans are particularly susceptible to asbestos exposure. Veterans with mesothelioma should seek legal counsel for assistance in negotiating compensation for asbestos exposure while serving.

The Navy branch of the military has been most affected, with many veterans being diagnosed with mesothelioma or other asbestos diseases.

Asbestos Exposure in the U.S. Army

Veterans in the United States were exposed to high levels of asbestos during much of the 20th century. The asbestos-containing material has been found in over 30 U.S. Army installations, and many troops have been continuously exposed to it.

Those who served in the U.S. Army and did duties such as mining, milling, pipe fitting, insulation work, shipyard work, carpentry, demolition of old buildings and construction, flooring and roofing installation may have been exposed to asbestos fibers.

Asbestos Exposure in the U.S. Marines

Airplanes, ships, and armored vehicles that were used to transport soldiers while in the U.S. Marine Corps also exposed veterans to asbestos. Asbestos was also used in the construction of many ships that Marines spent significant time on.

As part of their service to our country, the Marines also share many facilities with the Navy. As a result, many Marines have been diagnosed with mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases.

Marine veterans may also have been exposed to asbestos through military installations, or barracks, which are often used as food halls, housing, and workplaces. There are asbestos-containing materials used for roofing, insulation, and flooring tiles. Despite the Military’s ban on asbestos use in the mid-1970s, many barracks, vehicles and ships still contain asbestos.

Asbestos Exposure in the U.S. Air Force

A veteran of the Air Force can also develop mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases after being exposed to asbestos while serving. Because asbestos products were durable, low-cost, and heat resistant, they were commonly used in the construction of Air Force bases, aircraft, and radar stations.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) conducted a study on Air Force facilities in 2012 that revealed asbestos in vinyl flooring, floor tiles, ceiling tiles, pipe insulation, stucco and drywall, as well as asbestos cement in wall insulation. There have been many instances where asbestos has been found in aircraft, including cockpit heaters, brakes, torque valves, heat shields for engines, gaskets, insulation, and electrical wiring.
