Attorney Matthew Stone

Attorney Matthew E. Stone is a first-generation lawyer and life-long resident of Lee County, North Carolina.  After graduating from high school, Mr. Stone, who is the son of a school teacher and grandson of a postal worker, spent sixteen-years working as a master bench jeweler prior to completing his education.

Mr. Stone holds a Bachelor of Science in Paralegal Studies with a minor in Psychology from Liberty University, where he graduated with honors in the Spring of 2017, and he obtained his Juris Doctor from Campbell University’s Norman A. Wiggins School of Law in Raleigh, North Carolina in May of 2020.

While in law school, Mr. Stone completed an internship at Turner Law Office in Wake County, where he gained firsthand experience in North Carolina’s court system.  He later accepted a clerkship at Post, Foushee, & Patton, P.A. in Lee County during the summer of 2019, which lasted nearly eighteen months; during such time, he assisted the attorneys in all aspects of legal research and writing.

After passing the North Carolina Bar Exam and becoming licensed to practice law, Mr. Stone accepted a position as Associate Trial Attorney for Post, Foushee, & Patton in Sanford, North Carolina, where he gained experience litigating cases involving numerous areas of law, including criminal defense, family law, firearms cases, and other areas of general practice.

Outside of work, Mr. Stone is a musician with a penchant for playing, collecting, and occasionally building guitars, an instrument he began learning more than 30 years ago.  His other interests include private general aviation, New York Mets baseball, and Carolina Hurricanes ice hockey.  Additionally, Mr. Stone and his wife, Katie, are animal lovers who enjoy spending downtime with their two dogs, Reece and Shelby.

In January 2022, Mr. Stone joined King Law Firm in its Sanford, North Carolina office, where he will continue to serve the community he grew up in and has lived his entire life.  His areas of practice include criminal defense, all aspects of traffic, including DMV/driver’s license restorations and other DMV issues, DWI defense, family/domestic law, general civil practice, firearms rights restorations, and post-conviction relief and expunctions, among other things.
